Job Summary
The Indirect Tax Guidance Specialist prepares and maintains taxpayer-facing VAT/excise guidance materials to ensure clarity, accuracy, and alignment with current laws and interpretations. The role supports drafting of public clarifications and FAQs, contributes to processing of private clarifications, and coordinates updates following legislative or policy changes. It works with Tax Policy, Internal Guidance, Disputes, and Digital teams to ensure materials are consistent, accessible, and effectively communicated through official customer channels.
Key Responsibilities
Guidance Preparation & Clarifications
- Drafts and updates guidance materials (notes, FAQs, examples) to reflect legislative or procedural changes.
- Prepares and reviews private clarification (binding ruling) case files, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and adherence to approved interpretations.
- Coordinates internal reviews and approvals with Internal Guidance, Tax Policy & Legislation, and Legal Affairs.
Monitoring & Updates
- Tracks legislative and administrative amendments and recommends updates to ensure materials reflect the latest customer positions.
- Reviews recurring taxpayer queries to identify areas requiring additional explanation or examples.
- Ensures all materials maintain version control, applicability dates, and clear language for public use.
Publication & Communication
- Prepares publication-ready content and coordinates with Public Relations & Communication and Information Systems & Digital Transformation on the release of materials across customer platforms.
- Maintains a structured repository of public clarifications, FAQs, and private rulings (redacted as required).
- Ensures published materials follow approved templates, tone, and accessibility standards.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Compiles reports on issued clarifications, updates, and turnaround times to identify recurring themes and improvement opportunities.
- Collects taxpayer and stakeholder feedback to enhance clarity, coverage, and usability of published content.
- Contributes to knowledge-sharing sessions and awareness initiatives related to new or updated guidance.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
| Preferred qualifications | ● Bachelor’s degree in Law, Taxation, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. ● Master’s degree or relevant professional certification (e.g., CTA, ACCA, CPA) is an advantage. |
| Preferred experience | ● 9+ years’ experience in indirect tax advisory, rulings, or guidance within government or public-sector organizations. ● Strong understanding of VAT/excise legislation, interpretative drafting, and taxpayer communication practices. |
| Technical & Other Skills | ● Proficiency in drafting, reviewing, and formatting technical tax guidance and clarifications. ● Strong organizational, analytical, and coordination skills. ● Clear written communication and attention to accuracy and deadlines. |
